We are so happy for the wrongful detainees who were released in the prisoner swap with Russia and their families. But with Elizabeth living through her 500th day of captivity, President Biden must do more to fulfill his promise to “work around the clock” to bring the “unjustly detained all around the world” home.

The US is the biggest foreign aid provider to the Iraqi government, while Iraqi government employees hold Elizabeth captive. The US government must exercise its influence on the Iraqi government and other regional players to make it clear Elizabeth’s release is a priority.
